Google Ads in AI Mode reach 10 more countries, UK due in Q4
Google is scaling ads in AI Mode to ten more countries and launching multiturn ads in the US. The UK is named for Q4 2026, so feed, match type and exclusion checks can start now.

Google is scaling ads in AI Mode to ten more countries and launching multiturn ads in the US, according to an announcement on 28 October 2026. Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible without new setup, so advertisers in those markets, and UK advertisers if Google's Q4 2026 plan holds, should check match types, feeds and exclusions before the traffic arrives.
What changed
Scaling now. Google's announcement, written by Shashi Thakur, VP and GM of Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences, says ads in AI Mode are scaling in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. The post gives no per-country dates.
Planned for Q4 2026. Google says it plans to expand to additional locales, "including Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom". The post gives no month or day, and "including" suggests the list is not complete.
Multiturn ads, US. Google says it is launching multiturn ads in the US to allow ads in follow-up queries in AI Mode. The post does not say whether this is fully live or phased, and does not name any other market for it. The Google Ads Help page separately says ads can appear across follow-up questions in AI Mode.
Labelling. Both sources say ads are labelled "Sponsored". The Help page adds that paid advertising does not influence the organic responses generated by Google AI.
What the Help page adds. The Google Ads Help page says existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are automatically eligible, through the normal auction, with no separate budget. Text ads and Shopping ads can appear. Google says it is also experimenting with local inventory ads and vehicle ads, which is testing, not availability. Its country list for ads within AI Overviews and AI Mode is the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Indonesia (AI Overviews only), Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan (text ads only), the Philippines and Singapore, in English. Google notes the list may not be exhaustive. Two points differ from the blog post: the Help page lists Indonesia, which the post does not mention, and it limits Pakistan to text ads. The United Kingdom does not appear on the Help page list as retrieved on 30 October 2026.
Google's figures. Google says AI Mode queries are on average three times longer than traditional searches (Google AI Mode Report, US, May 2026). It also says "click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode" (Google internal data, US, 20 August to 3 September 2026). Both are Google's own numbers on a US basis, with no method published in the post, so they say little about the new markets.
What this means for specialists
There is no switch to flip. The Help page says you cannot target AI Overviews or AI Mode exclusively, or opt out of them separately from Search. The controls that apply are the ones you already have: negative keywords, brand exclusions and asset pinning.
Match type determines eligibility for contextual matching. Google says AI Max for Search, broad match, Shopping campaigns and Performance Max can match both directly to the query and contextually to the query plus the AI response. Exact and phrase match keywords are eligible only when the query expresses direct commercial intent, and are not eligible for contextual matching on broader exploratory questions. An account built on exact and phrase alone will therefore see a narrower slice of AI Mode, by Google's own description.
Reporting will not isolate it. Performance for ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in aggregate in campaign reports, and the queries appear in aggregate in the search terms report. Any change you see once ads reach a new market will be mixed in with everything else. Keep a dated change log to help interpret aggregate movements, while recognising that it cannot by itself establish AI Mode's contribution.
Creative is partly out of your hands. In some placements Google may show AI explainers, text generated by Gemini models, drawing on the query, the AI response and public sources including your website. The Help page says advertisers cannot write, edit, approve or opt out of them. Your site content is therefore an input you do control.
Billing is unchanged: the same auction, the same CPC or conversion-based bidding, and no extra charge to participate, according to the Help page.
What to do this week
- Open your Search campaigns and identify which use broad match or AI Max for Search, and which rely only on exact and phrase match. Then review Shopping and Performance Max separately, as other campaign types Google lists as eligible for contextual matching.
- Check AI Max for Search settings: search term matching, text customisation and final URL expansion. Google recommends all three for these queries, which is vendor guidance, so decide per campaign whether your landing pages can bear it.
- Open Merchant Center and compare feed titles, descriptions, images, prices, sale prices, ratings and shipping and return policies against what is on the landing pages. The Help page says the data should match.
- Review negative keyword lists and brand exclusions on Search, Shopping and Performance Max, as these are the stated controls for when your ads serve.
- Review the current search terms report and record a dated baseline, noting query length where possible.
- Confirm conversion tracking is sound: the Google tag firing correctly, and offline conversion imports running if you use them. Google ties its bidding advice to accurate first-party conversion data.
What we do not know yet
- The date for the UK, Brazil and Mexico. Google says only Q4 2026, and "plan to".
- Whether the UK launch will be English only, and whether it will cover text and Shopping ads from the start.
- Per-country timing for the ten markets now scaling, and why the Help page and the post differ on Indonesia and Pakistan.
- Whether multiturn ads will reach markets beyond the US, and when.
- Whether Google will add an AI Mode segment to reporting. The sources describe aggregate reporting only.
- How the click-through comparison was measured, and whether it holds outside the US.
